Camp Restore History

Camp Restore New Orleans is housed on the restored campus of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and School in New Orleans East.

In 2006 LCMS World Relief and Human Care disaster response director Rev. Glenn Merritt, Laborers For Christ director Dan Baker, and Southern District President Kurtis Schultz led the effort to establish Camp Restore for “Restoring Faith, Home, and Community to Victims of Katrina.”

Camp Restore’s first volunteers were welcomed in October of 2006 by Camp Director Rev. Ed Brashier and his family. Over 3,500 volunteers came in the first year in addition to 60 Laborers for Christ and their spouses who served as project managers. Hundreds of homes have been repaired and three Lutheran churches have been completely restored while many others have received various assistance from Camp Restore volunteers. Thousands of yards have been mowed, hundreds of community improvement projects completed and thousands of people have been given the hope of Jesus through Camp Restore volunteers and staff.

RAI Ministries is currently working closely with Prince of Peace congregation to partner together as we continue to share the hope of Christ from our current campus at 9301 Chef Menteur Highway.
